What
This app depicts radiation patterns for an accelerated charge. Such a charge emits an electromagnetic (EM) field travelling at the speed of light, and therefore always faster than the charge itself. This condition causes such EM disturbances to be stretched out, ensuring that there are no kinks. When this is the case, the EM field is smooth (holomorphic), and a holographic principle applies: The field everywhere in the bulk is fully defined by the values on the boundary.
Lines of fixed angle (green) depict transverse waves, like the photons emitted by an accelerating charge. Lines of fixed radius (red) depict longitudinal waves which experience doppler shifting along the axis of motion.
